"Such a cute little find recommended by Code Black on their social media. I guess they had a former employee open this little Japanese cafe! Some of staff are super accomodating and lovely and some of The staff could have been a bit friendlier but appreciated my purchases of the tote bag and Fresko cup which have adorable designs so I couldn’t resist! The matchapuccino, a blend of matcha and espresso, I couldn’t pass up with a side of hot oat milk and they were more than happy to make it on water rather than on milk. The shop is small but cute and full of plants! The food looked delicious but being vegan I couldn’t have most of it! Really would have loved to try the peanut butter spread and black sesame paste or a Japanese sandwich. This last visit the staff was nice enough to give me little samples of their homemade and beautiful tasting black sesame paste and kinako peanut butter! Cutest merchandise ! I purchased the fresko cups with their logo and now they carry tee shirts too! I also have tried the matchapuccino on almond milk which is very good! Have yet to try the strawberry matcha and other drinks"
"Surprisingly delicious!!! I am still dreaming about this sesame paste toast!! My absolute fav, we also got the tamago toast, the corned beef as well as honey butter, the soft shokupan was amazing, toasted to perfection whilst also maintaining a pillowy inside! Yum!! The chai latte was also very good, so beautiful too. Complaints from my friends for the strawberry matcha as well as the matcha latte, although an incredibly small space with not too many seats available, we will definitely be back"
"A small Japanese coffee shop in Melbourne. The shokupan has a thick and fluffy texture. The dough is slightly sweet and very delicious. It goes great with red bean paste and butter. The coffee was also delicious."
"This place is bonkers! I had the Curry Cheese Toast over a year ago and it has been in my dreams ever since. I guess the revisit factor was moderate to severe but I just lacked the follow through. Today is the day that I was reintroduced to this appetising little snack! The curry cheese toast is kinda hard to describe tbh, imagine a really thick and fluffy piece of white bread, but hollowed out only to be filled with tasty Japanese curry with vegetables, and finally covered in cheese! Definitely worth trying even if you have to PT or drive there. I’m calling Taiyo Sun a hidden hit! The combination of flavours and texture will continue to linger in my thoughts until we meet again"
"The toasts(cheese egg / corn beef) and strawberry matcha lattes were very delicious. Although the space is very small, only 8 seats. Also curry sold out at 1ish, bit disappointing cause that's what we came for. So if you want to try there curry should prob go a bit earlier."
"Who would’ve through croissants and Japanese curry would go so well together! The croissant served was nice and flakey, and their curry was flavourful. The vegetables in the curry were also well-cooked, surprisingly still had bite to them which I appreciate. I really enjoyed their strawberry matcha as well - whilst I can’t say it is strong in matcha, I think they offer the perfect balance. Taiyo Sun is quite hidden and very easy to miss this spot, but definitely worth a try."
"Let’s discover the matcha heaven of Melbourne. Matcha has been on the rise for several years, looking at the specialty coffee scene, matcha lattes started to take off back around 2015. Since then, they became more and more popular around the world . Last weekend I went to visit Taiyo Sun, a little treasure that can be hard to find as it is well hidden. Once you are in, you will enjoy yourself to the fullest. I loved the architecture of the building and the interior design: exposed concrete, raw wood and many tiny little plants as a decoration. They paid great attention to details and you can also find books about Japan . The baristas were very friendly, as you would experience it in Japan. I went for a strawberry matcha latte and a matcha donut ! Well, the full matcha treat. I truly enjoyed my sweet matcha brunch and to round it up, I also had a flat white, just to make it a true Aussie experience, fueled by ."
"Found this little gem in Fitzroy where there're only 3 tables in the store and can probably only sit 6-8 people. The store has a minimalistic interior with a small menu. We ordered 3 types of toasts: -Curry cheese toast: Delicious & flavourful, interesting combination with the shokupan - Azuki butter toast: This dish should probably come after our savoury toasts since it was cold by the time we got to it. The red bean bun on the counter was better. - Tamago (egg) cheese toast: Japanese egg salad on shokupan, it was quite comforting since my mom used to make this kind of salad for me at home. The highlight was the red bean bun on the counter, it was heated up beautifully. The strawberry matcha latte was nice too."
